Quick help

I can’t join

Check all six characters in the event code, or reopen the original invite link. If the Roll has fully expired or the host deleted it, it can no longer be joined.

The camera won’t open

In iOS Settings, allow Roll to use the Camera. Video also needs Microphone access. The camera closes when a Roll ends.

I only see thumbnails

The save window has closed. Past Rolls keep a small photo grid, but full-size photos and videos are no longer available to open or save.

Something looks wrong

Quit and reopen Roll, confirm your connection, and try again. If it continues, email us with your iPhone model, iOS version, and what you tapped—never your sign-in credential.

Uploads and saving

An upload is stuck

Keep Roll open with a stable connection if you can. Roll stores unfinished captures on your device and retries them after reopening while the upload window remains available. A capture queued before the camera closed may still finish during the save window, but an expired upload may no longer be accepted.

Large videos take longer and need free device space. Do not delete the app, sign out, leave the Roll, or delete your account while an important upload is pending; those actions can remove its local recovery file.

I want to keep the photos

Save them before the save window closes. Allow Photo Library access and check that your phone has enough space. “Save my shots” keeps a device copy of captures you make when enabled. Saving from Roll does not change who owns the photo or give permission to redistribute it.

When Rolls expire

The clock normally starts with the first accepted photo—not when the host creates the Roll. Captures stay open for about 24 hours, followed by about 24 hours for viewing and saving. Hosts can end a Roll sooner, and cleanup timing is approximate.

After the save window, Roll removes original-size photos, videos, and display-size copies. A small photo-thumbnail grid and limited event history can remain for existing participants. Those thumbnails cannot restore an expired original or video.

Notifications

Notifications are optional. Roll may use them for new-photo updates, expiring-event reminders, or pending-upload warnings. Change permission in iOS Settings → Notifications → Roll. Reminders can be delayed or missed, so do not rely on one as your only cue to save media.

Hosting and invite codes

An event code lets people join one Roll. A host invite code, when invitation-only hosting is enabled, unlocks the ability to create Rolls. Host invite codes are one-time codes, and generating one uses part of the host’s available invitation quota even if nobody redeems it.

If a code fails, check whether it is the right type, was already used, was revoked, or was entered under a different signed-in Apple or Google account. Do not post access codes publicly unless you are comfortable with anyone who sees them attempting to join.

Account deletion

Signed-in hosts can choose Account → Delete account in Roll. Account-deletion requests are processed as required by applicable law, subject to retention for security, legal, and deletion-record purposes where permitted. Deletion cannot erase copies other people already saved.

Guests can leave a Roll from the app before it expires. For help deleting guest data, an expired membership, or data you cannot reach in the app, email contact@tryroll.photos with the Roll code and the display name you used. We may ask for information needed to verify the request.

Report unsafe or abusive content

When possible, open the photo or video, tap the menu, and choose Report. Reporting hides that item on your device and attempts to send Roll the identifiers needed to locate it. You can also block the uploader; blocking is a reversible, device-level control that hides that person’s content for you.

If in-app reporting does not work, email us. Include the Roll code, item or frame number, what happened, and whether a child may be at risk. Do not attach illegal, exploitative, or intimate media to your email.

Request removal of a nonconsensual intimate image

If an authentic or digitally altered intimate photo or video depicts you and was shared without your consent, you—or someone you authorize—can request removal. You do not need a Roll account.

Email contact@tryroll.photos with the subject “Nonconsensual intimate image removal request” and include, in writing:

  1. your full name and contact email;
  2. your physical or electronic signature, or the signature and authority of a representative acting for you;
  3. the Roll code and enough information to locate the image, such as the item or frame number, uploader name, and approximate upload time;
  4. a brief statement that you have a good-faith belief the image depicts you and was published without your consent, with any relevant context; and
  5. whether you know of another identical copy in Roll.

Do not attach or resend the intimate image. After receiving a valid request, we will, as required by applicable law, remove the image as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours, and make reasonable efforts to identify and remove known identical copies. If we need more information, we may contact you.

Privacy requests
